The Lafata Project is based in Madeira Ga-Sekororo in the Limpopo province of South Africa and was founded by ten unemployed women in 2002.

Assisted by finance from Kodumela ADP and the Department of Social Development, they began producing colourful beadwork and cultivating a garden and by 2005 they were successful enough to set up and fund a drop-in centre for orphans and vulnerable children where they now feed 62 children every day.

Their business has expanded to include raising poultry for eggs and meat and baking cakes on a daily basis which are sold to local communities and schools.

The National Development Agency assisted in the extension of their building which now provides work space for 16 women as well as a sales area for their beautiful beadwork, tie-dyed wraps and t-shirts and painted fabric cushion covers and wall hangings. The building also houses industrial ovens for their tasty cakes.
